PROGNOSIS ~ Dec 17th @ LOOP

by J-Slyde

Prognosis December Flyer

One year on from their first event under the Prognosis banner, with no sign of slowing down, the krew are getting set to celebrate the only way they know how – hot beats, tasty beverages, and shenanigans a’plenty!

Intent on doing something special for such a momentous occasion, we couldn’t think of a better artist to headline and celebrate Prognosis’ first birthday than NYC protégé come Melbourne beat wizard, PQM. With a DJ and production career that dates back to the early 90’s, PQM has a vast musical knowledge that will no doubt be used to good measure. With the opportunity to flex his musical muscles over a two hour feature set, PQM is set to delve into his extensive collection of tunes to deliver a set of truly epic proportions.

After turning the FB world green with envy over his international exploits, local trance favourite Jed returns from overseas and will be stepping up to the plate to play his first ever ‘non-trance’ set. As part of Rush with events pushing techno and progressive alongside trance, Jed is well versed in the sounds that will no doubt whip Loop into a frenzy.

Substance kingpin and crowd favourite Taran M returns from quasi-retirement to get amongst the lunacy as he lays down the sweetest of beats and other tasty treats from his repertoire. Rounding out the night will of course be the Prognosis residents J-Slyde, Simon Murphy and Aaron Static. Expect the unexpected as the three continue their musical missions into melodic madness.

No Prognosis would be complete without captivating, hypnotizing visuals which will once again be provided by Vdmo Kstati. With a booking schedule jam packed with festival and club events, the forever growing arsenal at this VJ’s disposal will ensure the night has an extraordinary audio visual feast!

J-Slyde & Simon Murphy – Live @ Brown Alley – Sept 23rd 2011

by J-Slyde

Hybrid, Tetrameth, Rack n Ruin, Solar Fields FlyerOur two head-wigs, Simon Murphy and J-Slyde, have finally gotten round to sorting out their live recording from the Hybrid and Solar Fields gig a few months back.

They played a peak-time set in main room inbetween the main acts. Bridging the gap from Hybrid’s techy prog and prog breaks, and setting the stage for Solar Fields intelligent psy, the boys did well in keeping the vibe and entertaining the heaving crowd. Taking influences from both their coined styles, the boys were able to find common ground with the music that they brought to the table. What followed is a fantastic peak-time set full of progressive and tech flavours.

PROGNOSIS @ Loop ~ 15th October

by J-Slyde

Prognosis - October 15th Flyer

After a MASSIVE night in August which saw a full club treated to an evening packed full of audio visual treats, this October sees the Prognosis crew head back to Loop to write the next chapter in their musical journey. A night not to be missed, the crew is once again set to explore the full spectrum of the progressive genre.

Prognosis welcomes back Darkbeat stalwart and Mink resident, Dave Juric, to lay down a fine selection of tunes from a genre that has long been aligned closely with the Melbourne scene. Playing alongside Prognosis resident J-Slyde, the two aficionados will delve deep into their collections to serve up a progressive breaks feast. Playing back-to-back, the two will take a look back at some of the tunes and artists that helped build the once thriving scene and acted as a catalyst in putting Melbourne on the global progressive map.

Joining them on the night is progressive house wunderkind Rysh Paprota whose highly acclaimed production and remix skills have seen him in high demand. Producer, DJ and front man of Budgie Collective online radio station, Square Eyes will be down to treat us to a showcase of his sound. Also along for the ride is Alex Butler who will be channeling the dusty dance-floors of the festival world as he packs a bag-load of tougher progressive weapons and gets ready set to unleash some musical mayhem.

Of course, no Prognosis event would be complete without the musical stylings of resident tune addicts Simon Murphy and Aaron Static, who will once again treat their audience to a captivating blend of the finest tunes on offer. Captivating crowds at some of Australia’s most highly regarded events with his artistic wizardry, vdmo Kstati is set to lay down the visual aspect of the night.

Hybrid, Solar Fields, Rack N Ruin and Tetrameth ~ Sept 23rd @ Brown Alley

by J-Slyde

Hybrid, Tetrameth, Rack n Ruin, Solar Fields Flyer

UPDATE: We’ve been lucky enough to join forces with Jungle Tiger and have secured Tetrameth and Solar Fields! Tickets are at the same price – be quick, as they will sell out!! Further details below.

MIXED MESSAGES, ROCK LIKE THIS, JUNGLE TIGER & SUBSTANCE SOUNDS PRESENT…

Hybrid Sound System (UK)

Since first bursting onto the scene with the now classic album Wide Angle in 1999, the Swansea, Wales-based Hybrid have been known as one of the most forward thinking and technically skilled acts in electronic dance music. Blurring the line between in-studio production and live presentation, Hybrid are one of the few remaining dance acts to perform live with a classic band setup.

Though, much has changed on the road to Hybrid’s fourth artist album Disappear Here. Most notable is the addition of Hybrid’s third member – singer/ songwriter Charlotte James – to go along with founders Chris Healings and Mike Truman.

Charlotte’s impact is marked as Disappear Here is truly an album of real songs and not merely dance beats with vocals on top. It offers a lot more than anything Hybrid has ever previously written and pushes boundaries in every way.

With Disappear Here, Hybrid have managed to create an epic and unique sound which has progressed dramatically from its original dance inception but still retains much of what makes electronic music so exciting. The album features guest vocals from Tim Hutton, drums from Alex Madge and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

Rack & Ruin (UK)

This young London producer has already harnessed the support of BBC’s Annie Mac, Nick Grimshaw, Kissy Sell-Out, Toddla T, DJ Zinc, Fake Blood, Shy FX, Jack Beats, Boy 8-Bit, and many more with his latest releases.

Remix credits include Nas & Damien Marley, I Blame Coco, Aggro Santos, The Nextmen feat. Groove Armada & Ms. Dynamite, Zero 7, and The Freestylers. Future projects include collaborations with Island Records, Southern Fried Records, Fat! Records, MC Navigator, Slarta John (Basement Jaxx), new vocalist Jessie Ware, and many more established vocalists and artists.

Solar Fields (SWEDEN)

Swedish based electronic music composer Magnus Birgersson aka Solar Fields built a unique sonic universe with a constant shifting from high tech ambient flow into broken beats, powerful sequences and fragmented loops. As a natural born multi-instrumentalist, Magnus plays the Veena, sitar, drums and guitar and is also deeply connected to any sound processing machine. Constantly exploring new musical horizons in his famous high-tech station called Studio Jupiter, Solar Fields likes to develop an evolving dream (“unfinished” as he likes to mention) and offers an intense listening experience.

The productive discography of Magnus Birgersson should be considered like a following of drifting masterpieces : 9 solo albums, 3 collaboration album with French composer Aes Dana under the name H.U.V.A. Network and more than 60 compilations features for various labels. Often classified as ambient downtempo. Solar Fields music in fact goes further than these boundaries propulsed by his talent for sculpting hypnotic harmonics and layering sounds.

Tetrameth (AUS)

Tetrameth is the brain child of Melbourne based musician/producer, Peter Hayes. Peter has been in the laboratory since 2003, cooking a potent brew of eclectic psychedelic progressive. Studying the art of music & several instruments from an early age. Making the shift from playing & touring in bands, to writing and producing in a studio was an inevitable and easy transition. Tetrameth’s sound has been quoted as “An extremely eclectic concoction. Cleverly constructed progressive, with an unmistakably organic undertone. The end result is a beast of its own.”(Beat magazine-2007)

Peter is a graduated musician, with a diploma in contemporary music, & majored playing guitar at the “Conservatorium of Music”. Tetrameth is psy trance at a world-class level, truly pushing, and surpassing boundaries previously set within the genre.

Prognosis ~ Aug 20th @ LOOP

by J-Slyde

Prognosis August 20th EFlyer

Back at Loop for their bi-monthly edition, the Prognosis krew are gearing up for yet another prog-fueled party of legendary status! Gaining quite a notorious reputation amongst underground EDM circles, not only for the quality of music at their events, but also for the fantastic vibe and up-for-it crowd, Prognosis are set to host one of their largest events to date!

Headlining the festivities, Dean Millson, front man of the Private Function parties and one of the crew behind Pretty Simple at Ffour, joins us for a smathering of all things progressive. Playing a key part in the flourishing Melbourne prog scene of the early 2000’s, Dean has been a stalwart in Melbourne’s local underground scene for quite some time. With a keen nod towards his roots, whilst delving deep into his vast record collection, Dean is set to offer up what will no doubt be a set full of old-school flavours along with newer cuts of the highest quality. Known for his precise mixing ability and vast knowledge of all things progressive, we couldn’t think of better hands to be in!

Alongside Dean, we are also extremely excited to welcome two of sunny Queensland’s most finest beat purveyors, Travis Lucas and Dan Mada.

Frontman of Qld based production company Involved, Travis has been leaving his mark across the sunny Gold Coast and Brisbane for the past few years. Not just restricted to Oz, he’s toured and performed the world over – from supporting Carl Cox at Fabric in London, to more recently entertaining the Japanese massive in Osaka and beyond. His unique approach to music has seen him in high demand on a truly global scale.

Adding to the madness, and definitely a case of saving the best till last, Dan Mada, another key member from the Involved krew, will bring his unique blend of house and summery vibes to cold ol’ Melbourne.

Visual duties will yet again be handled by the highly talented VJ PiedPiper, projecting onto two 20ft screens throughout the venue for the entire night.

Auditory prog-support will be handled by the mischievous Prognosis trio: Aaron Static, Simon Murphy and J-Slyde.
